Latv. [[virpêt]] [[spin with a spindle]], also [[shudder]], <b class="b2">vḕrpt</b> [[spin]], [[turn round about]]. On Skt. (RV) <b class="b2">várpas-</b> n. (adduced by Schrader KZ 30, 481) is because of the uncertain meaning (prob. [[figure]], [[apparition]]; also [[change]], even [[artifice]]?) no judgement possible. However, as the Myc. form has no <b class="b2">w-</b>, the etym. cannot be correct. -- On the many derivv. of the Balt. verbs, which are uninteresting for Greek, s.
