[[naptya-]] [[descendant]], OCS. [[netьjь]] [[nephew]], derived from the word for [[grandson]], [[nephew]], Skt. <b class="b2">nápāt</b>, Lat. [[nepōs]] etc. Not to [[νέποδες]]. The [[ἀ-]] can be <b class="b2">*h₂-</b>, but possibly it represents <b class="b2">*sm̥-</b>, expressing the reciprocity of the relation (Benv. Voc. Inst. 1, 234).
