A splendid, shining, bright, epith. of beautiful objects, ἀ. ὕδωρ Il.2.307, etc.; γυῖα 19.385, cf. B.16.103; μηρία Hes.Op.337; ἥβης ἀ. ἄνθος Tyrt.10.28, cf. Thgn. l.c., B.5.154; then generally, splendid, beautiful, ἄποινα Il.1.23; δῶρα ib.213, etc.; ἔργα Od.10.223; ἄλσος Il.2.506, cf. Pi.N.4.20, Simon.13, etc.; noble, glorious, ἀγλαόν [ἐστιν] ἀνδρὶ μάχεσθαι γῆς πέρι Callin.1.6.
