   A going out: hence, losing colour, fading, evanescent, πορφυρίδες ἐξίτηλοι X.Oec.10.3; of paintings, faded, ἐ. ὑπὸ τοῦ χρόνου Paus.10.38.9, cf. Poll.1.44; γράμματα Id.5.150.    2 metaph., ἐ. τροφή food that has lost its properties during assimilation, Hp.Alim.4; so of seed sown in alien soil, Pl.R.497b; of a drug or wine that has lost its power, Phylarch.10J., Dsc.5.6; ἐ. γενέσθαι, of a family, to become extinct, Hdt.5.39; οὔπω σφιν ἐ. αἷμα δαιμόνων is not yet extinct, A.Fr.162.4, cf.
