Etymology: On the formation in -ών Chantraine Formation 159. The meaning suggets a loan. (Connection with Skt. śŕ̥ngam horn (with κέρας etc.) rightly rejected by BrugmannGrundr.2 2:1, 508. - For κραγγών κίσσα H. v. Blumenthal Hesychst. 41 f. proposes to read κραγών, i. e. "crying bird" (κράζω) and change κραγών ἔνυδρον ζῶον in κραγγών, which would give the correct alphabetical order.
