A large stone, boulder, such as were used for missiles by the heroes of the Il., ὀκριόεν 4.518; μεγάλα 11.265, cf. 14.410; ὁ δὲ χερμάδιον λάβε χειρὶ... μέγα ἔργον, ὃ οὐ δύο γ' ἄνδρε φέροιεν 5.302, 20.285; twice in Od., ἀνδραχθέσι χερμαδίοισι βάλλον, of the Laestrygones, 10.121, cf. 21.371.
