ἡ, gen. φρῑκός: (φρίσσω):—
A ruffling of a smooth surface. I ripple caused by a gust of wind sweeping over the smooth sea, ὑπὸ φρικὸς Βορέω Il.23.692; μελαίνῃ φρικὶ καλυφθείς, of Proteus coming to the surface, Od.4.402; Ζεφύροιο ἐχεύατο πόντον ἔπι φρίξ ripple spread over the sea from the west wind, Il.7.63; μαλακὴν φρῖκα φέροι Ζέφυρος AP7.668 (Leon.); θάλασσα φρικὶ χαρασσομένη ib.10.2 (Antip.Sid.), cf. 14 (Agath.).—Poet. word for Prose φρίκη. II bristling up, as of the hair, κριὸς βαθείῃ φρικὶ μαλλὸν ὀρθώσας Babr. 93.7. 2 shivering-fit, Hp.Morb.2.68, POxy.924.3 (iv A. D.); φρὶξ ἐπέσχε νῶτα καὶ κνήμας Babr.95.59.
