A stake, wager, c. gen. pretii, τρίποδος περιδώμεθον ἠὲ λέβητος let us make a wager of a tripod, i.e. let us wager a tripod (to be paid by the loser), Il.23.485 ; ἐμέθεν περιδώσομαι αὐτῆς I will wager myself, i.e. my life, Od.23.78 ; π. πότερον . . lay a wager whether...
