A speak gently to, advise, μητρὶ δ' ἐγὼ παράφημι Il.1.577 :—Med., persuade, appease, μνηστῆρας μαλακοῖς ἐπέεσσι παρφάσθαι Od.16.287, 19.6 ; τιν' ἄλλον παρφάμενος ἐπέεσσιν ἀποτρέψεις πολέμοιο Il.12.249, cf. Od.2.189 ; μαλακοῖσι παραιφάμενοι ἐπέεσσιν Hes.Th.90, cf. Parm.1.15. 2 freq. with collat. notion of deceit, speak deceitfully or insincerely, παρφάμεν ὅρκον, λόγον, Pi.
