v. the foll.), i, m. στρόφιον, a band, thong, strap (anteclass.): remos jussit religare struppis, Liv. And. ap. Isid. Orig. 19, 4, 9; Vitr. 10, 3, 6: struppis verberari, Gracch. ap. Gell. 10, 3, 5: stroppus est, ut Ateius Philologus existimat, quod Graece στρόφιον vocatur, et quod sacerdotes pro insigni habent in capite. Quidam coronam esse dicunt, aut quod pro coronā insigne in caput imponatur, quale sit strophium. Itaque apud Faliscos diem festum esse, qui vocetur struppearia, quia coronati ambulent; et a Tusculanis, quod in pulvinari imponatur Castoris, struppum vocari, Fest. p. 313 Müll.; cf.: tenuioribus (coronis) utebantur antiqui, stroppos appellantes: unde nata strophiola, Plin. 21, 2, 2, § 3.
