Etymology: One compares some Skt. words with the meaning cane, arrow as śará- m., śárya- n., f., śalyá- m. n., further MIr. cail spear (IE. *kali-), OWNo. hali m., tail (n-stem), al as opposed to κῆλα with short (α-)vowel. No connection with κᾶλον wood. - Further suggestions see Pok. 552f.
