P. and V. φοβεῖν, ἐκφοβεῖν, διαπτοεῖν (Plat.), ἐκπλήσσειν, Ar. and P. καταφοβεῖν, P. καταπλήσσειν.
Be terrified: use also V. δειματοῦσθαι (also Ar. in act.), ἐπτοῆσθαι (perf. pass. of πτοεῖν); see fear.
