   A meaning mischief, baleful (so always in Il.), ὕδρος 2.723 ; λέων 15.630 ; σῦς κάπρος 17.21 ; but    II in Od., crafty, sagacious, of persons, Ἄτλας 1.52 ; Αἰήτης 10.137 ; Μίνως 11.322. (Sense 11 is derived from sense 1, cf. the signf. of δαΐφρων and δεινός ; expld. by Cleanth.Stoic.1.125 by ὁ ὑπὲρ ὅλων φρονῶν, i. e. ὁλο-.)
