Frisk Etymological English

Grammatical information: n. pl.
Meaning: bed (Il.).
Other forms: (rarely sg. -ιον)
Derivatives: None.
Origin: XX [etym. unknown]
Etymology: If δέμνια indicates originally the connecting elements, one considers κρή-δεμνον head-band (Pedersen Vergl. Gramm. d. kelt. Spr. 1, 167); δέμνια could then be a ιο-derivation of an n-stem *δέμα (s. δέω bind). - Also δέμω build has beem addused (Meister BB 11, 176).

Frisk Etymology German

δέμνια: (selten sg. -ιον)
{démnia}
Grammar: n. pl.
Meaning: Bettgestell, Bett (ep. poet. seit Il.).
Derivative: Keine Ableitungen.
Etymology : Falls δέμνια ursprünglich die verbindenden Gurte bezeichnete, empfiehlt sich der Vergleich mit κρήδεμνον Kopfbinde (Pedersen Vergl. Gramm. d. kelt. Spr. 1, 167); δέμνια wäre dann eine ιο-Ableitung eines n-Stamms *δέμα oder r-n-Stamms *δέμαρ Band (s. δέω binden). — Früher (Meister BB 11, 176) zu δέμω bauen gezogen.
