[ῐ], ον, of verses,
A consisting of three μέτρα; i. e. in iambics, trochaics, and anapaestics, of three συζυγίαι (of two feet each); but in dactylics, etc., of three single feet: hence the iambic verse of six feet is called by the Greeks ἴαμβος τρίμετρος, Hdt.1.12; so τόνος τ. trimeter verse, ib.174; ἔπη τ. Pl.Lg.810e; τρίμετρον, τό, Ar.Nu.642, Arist.Po.1447b11 (pl.). II τρίμετρος, ὁ, a measure of capacity for oil, IG14.422 iii 44 (Tauromenium).
