A set over against, meeting, ἵπποι ὑ. ἀλλήλοισιν Hes.Sc. 347. 2 set against, opposite, of enemies in battle, τοὺς σφίσιν ὑ. Th.2.2; οἱ ὑ. the enemy, X.Cyr.1.6.38, cf. D.18.148, etc. 3 opposed, opposite, contrary, γένη Pl.Plt.306e; of contrary properties, τὸ ὑ.
