Our navy was at first in fine condition both as regards the seasoned nature of the ships and the health of the crews: P. τὸ ναυτικὸν ἡμῶν τὸ μὲν πρῶτον ἤκμαζε καὶ τῶν νεῶν τῇ ξηρότητι καὶ τῶν πληρωμάτων τῇ σωτηρίᾳ (Thuc. 7, 12).
