A kindle into flame, cause to blaze up, ζ. τοὺς ἄνθρακας Men.71; τὸ πνεῦμα ζ. Thphr.Ign.27:—in Pass., to be quickened by fire, of the foetus, Hp.Vict.1.9. 2 metaph., μέριμναι ζωπυροῦσι τάρβος A.Th.290 (lyr.); ζωπυρουμένας φρενός Id.Ag.1034 (lyr.); τῆς φύσεως τὸ ζωπυροῦν Arist.PA670a25, cf. Plu.2.940c; ζ. τινά to provoke him, Ar.Lys.682 (lyr.); ζ. τρυφήν increase it, Plu.Lyc.9; in Magic, quicken, fill with power, PMag.Leid.V.10.7 (Pass.).
