Note that <b class="b3">δέαλος</b> could well have been used in this place. "the presence of <b class="b3">τε</b> after <b class="b3">σῆμα</b> obliges to see <b class="b3">δέελον</b> as a substantive." Hesychius gives the right form. It is derived from <b class="b3">δέω</b> [[bind]], with the suffix <b class="b3">-ελο-</b>, i.e. <b class="b2">*deh₁-elo-</b>. It could have meant (French) [[lien]]. (He also gives another possibility, which seems less probable to me.) Cf. also [[δῆλος]].
