(v. l. Hdt. 2, 96, Cyrene IVa), m. (hell. a. late).<br />Origin: XX [etym. unknown]<br />Etymology: No agreement outside Greek. Since long (Persson Stud. 165) connected with <b class="b3">ῥίπτω</b>: basic meaning of the verb [[turn]], [[wind]], from where on the one hand [[twine]] with the root noun [[wickerwork]], on the other [[throw]].
