If not a LW [loanword] (Schwyzer 348 a. 469), perh. with Strömberg l.c. to <b class="b3">ῥέω</b> because of the richness of saps. Basic form perh. <b class="b3">*ῥοϜ-ιά</b>, so <b class="b3">ια-</b>deriv. from <b class="b3">ῥοῦς</b> [[stream]]; cf. <b class="b3">σκοπ-ιά</b> (: <b class="b3">σκοπός</b>), <b class="b3">ἐσχατ-ιά</b> (: <b class="b3">ἔσχατος</b>) etc. The suffix can be related to the concrete meaning. -- On the plantnames <b class="b3">ῥοῦς</b> m.
