Schr. 1023 a. 1) a in Ionic and elsewhere pronounced open <b class="b3">ἰρ-</b>, which was in Attic first rendered by <b class="b3">ἐ-</b>, later by <b class="b3">εἰρ-</b>; the Attic orthography became dominant.
