By Fick GGA 1894, 238 and von Wilamowitz Glaube 1, 265 n. 2 (with Ach. Tat. Intr. Arat. 33) explained as "the (wind) coming from the <b class="b3">Κάϊκος</b>, a river of the Aeolis" ; cf. the similar <b class="b3">Όλυμπίας</b>, <b class="b3">Ἐλλησποντίας</b> a. o. Acc. to others (Bersu, Fick, Brugmann; s. Bq; also Pisani KZ 61, 187, Huisman KZ 71, 99) however as "the blind" = "the dark, obscuring" from an old wort for [[blind]], [[one-eyed]], Lat. [[caecus]] [[blind]] = OIr. [[caech]] [[one-eyed]] = Goth. [[haihs]] <b class="b2">id.</b>, Skt. <b class="b2">keka-ra-</b> [[sqinting]]; one compares Lat. [[aquilō]] [[northwind]] from [[aquilus]] [[dark]]. Not very probable.
