Also in [[ῥαιβός]] the [[β]] is old and inherited, if the comparison with Germ., e.g. Goth. [[wraiqs]] [[σκολιός]]' is reliable: IE <b class="b2">*u̯roigʷo-</b> or <b class="b2">*u̯roig-u̯o-</b> (Aufrecht KZ 12, 400, Persson Beitr. 1, 502 n.1). On the <b class="b3">α-</b>vowel cf. [[κλαμβός]] a.o. above, also [[λαιός]], [[σκαιός]] (w. old <b class="b2">u̯o-</b>suffix). Other proposal, not to be preferred by Solmsen KZ 34, 552: to Lith. <b class="b2">sráigė</b> [[snail]] (s.
