Personennamen 214.<br />Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]<br />Etymology: [[θαῦμα]] belongs to the group of [[θάμβος]], [[τέθηπα]] etc. with Pre-Greek labial\/F (Fur. 228-33); this also explains [[θῶμα]] with [[αυ]]\/[[ω]], beside which through etymological notation in Hdt. also [[θῶυμα]] (Hoffmann Dial. 3, 366f.); from IE the variation cannot be explained. These verbal nouns go back on a verb for [[see]], [[observe]], seen also in [[θέα]] [[looking at]] (s. v.), [[θεάομαι]] [[behold]]; [[θαῦμα]]. Thus Kuiper Gedenksch.
