OS MLG [[ōst]] [[knot in wood]], [[knag]]. -- Since Brugmann IF 19, 379 n. 1 and Grundr.2 II: 2, 816 analysed as <b class="b2">*o-sd-o-s</b> <b class="b2">sitting (on the stem) </b>, "Ansitzer", from 2. <b class="b3">ὀ-</b> (s. v.) and zero grade of <b class="b2">sed-</b> in [[ἵζω]] (s. [[ἕζομαι]]). But because of equally built Lat. [[nīdus]] [[nest]] from <b class="b2">*ni-sd-o-s</b>, prop. "sitting down, place to sit down" rather to be understood with Bloornfield Lang. 3, 213f. as "place to sit on", referring to birds. -- From dimin. [[ὀζάριον]] MGr. [[ἀζάρι]], from where NGr. [[ζαρώνω]] [[shrink]], [[contract]] (Hatzidakis Glotta 11, 176 ff.). The connection with Hitt.
