[[sub verbo|s.v.]] and Schwyzer 528), so from <b class="b3">*πελεκα-Ϝεντ-</b> (Björck Alpha impurum 271; but the formation will not be IE)? Rather with Kretschmer Glotta 14, 101 connected with [[πελεκάω]] like e.g. [[Φείδας]]: [[φείδομαι]]. With [[πελεκάν]] cf. esp. the peoples names in <b class="b3">-άν</b> ([[Ἀκαρνάν]] a.o.); on the not-Ion.-Att. form Björck 62 a. 288. - Furnée 320 sompares <b class="b3">σπέλεκτος πελεκάν</b> H.
