Da es aber Hom. auch von der Demeter und der Agamede, Il. 5, 500. 11, 740, Hes. u. A, auch von Frauen brauchen, so ist die erste Erkl. richtiger; es wird dem Achilleus auch ausdrücklich ξανθὴ [[κόμη]] beigelegt, Il. 1, 197, 23, 141 (vgl, ξανθὸς Ἀχιλεύς Pind. N. 3, 41), wie dem Odysseus ξανθαὶ [[τρίχες]], Od. 13, 391. 431. Daß blonde Haare als ein Schmuck idealer Jugendschönheit gegolten haben, sieht man daraus, daß der ewig jugendliche Apollo blond ist, u. daß auch auf der attischen Bühne blondes Haar das Kennzeichen der Heldenjünglinge blieb. – Ξανθαὶ ἵπποι, salbe, isabellfarbene Stuten, Il. 9, 407. 11, 680 (vgl. auch nom. propr.). – Pind. nennt die Athene ξανθά, N. 10, 7, wie die Χάριτες, 5, 54; auch den Löwen, frg. 261; βοῶν ξανθὰς ἀγέλας, P. 4, 149; ἴων ξανθαῖσι καὶ παμπορφύροις ἀκτῖσι, Ol. 6, 55; Aesch. ξανθῆς ἐλαίας [[καρπός]], Pers. 609; vom Wein, Soph. fr. 257; bei Eur. häufig vom Haare, auch Ἁρμονία ξανθά, Med. 834; auch in Prosa überall; ξανθοτέρα, Plat.
