An. 1, 1, 10, aus dem bei der griechischen lebhaften Darstellungsweise so häufigen Uebergange in das Directe zu erklären. – Bei Hom. steht der bloße conj. aor. ohne ἄν, Il. 24, 551 Od. 10, 172, wie auch bei [[πρίν]] γε, Il. 18, 135 Od. 17, 9; Hes. Th. 222; nur einmal [[πρίν]] γ' ὅτ' ἄν, Od. 2, 374. Auch bei attischen Dichtern fällt ἄν zuweilen weg, μὴ στέναζε, πρὶν μάθῃς , Soph. Phil. 905; οὐκ ἴσασι, [[πρίν]] τις ἐκβάλῃ, Ai. 944; u. so öfter bei den Tragg., vgl. Pors. Eur. Med. 222, Elmsl. ib. 215; einzeln auch in Prosa, Her. 6, 82, Thuc. 8, 9, Xen. Oec. 12, 1; vgl. Stallbaum zu Plat. Phaed. 62 c. – b) in indirecter Rede und in Beziehung auf die Vergangenheit der optat., ebenfalls bes. bei vorangehenden negativen Sätzen, Ἀγήνωρ οὐκ ἔθελεν φεύγειν, πρὶν πειρήσαιτ' Ἀχιλῆος, Il. 21, 580; auch bei [[πρίν]] γ' ὅτε δή, 9, 488; [[πρίν]] γε, Hes. Sc. 17; auch bei [[πρίν]] κεν, Od. 4, 117; Soph. Phil. 199; ὡς οὐ πρότερον ἐσόμενοι γραμματικοὶ πρὶν [[οὕτως]] ἔχοιμεν, Plat. Rep. III, 402 b; [[οὐδαμόθεν]] ἀφίεσαν, πρὶν παραθεῖεν αὐτοῖς [[ἄριστον]], Xen. An. 4, 5, 30, wo zugleich das oftmalige Vorkommen damit ausgedrückt ist; – ἄν steht bei diesem optat. selten, Soph.
