II. p. 411), celebrated on the 12th of October, in commemoration of the day on which Augustus returned to Rome, Tao. A. 1, 15 and 54: sodales, a college of twenty-five priests instituted in honor of Augustus, after his death, by Tiberius, Tac. A. 1, 54; 3, 64; Suet. Claud. 6; id. Galb. 8; called also sacerdotes, Tac. A. 2, 83; and absol.: Augustaies, id. ib. 3, 64; id. H. 2, 95; Inscr. Orell. 610. In the municipal cities and colonies there were such colleges of priests of Augustus, composed of six men, called Seviri Augustales, Petr. 30, 2; cf. Inscr. Orell.
