   A fort, small town, Th.7.4, Call.Del.41. Plu. Tim.11, etc.; in earlier writers only as pr. n., Πολίχνη, Att. Πολίχνᾱ, a city in Chios, Hdt.6.26; in Ionia, Th.8.14, etc.; in the Megarid, v.l. in Il.2.557:—hence Πολιχνῖται, οἱ, inhabitants of a city in Crete, Hdt.7.170.
