   A straiten, confine, contract, αὐτήν (the trachea) Gal.18(2).949; τὴν γαστέρα Lib.Decl.31.20; = angusto, Dosith.p.435K.:—mostly in Pass., ἐς στενώτερον ἐστενωμέναι (prob. f.l. for συνηγμέναι) Hp.VM22; ὄρη τὰς διεξόδους ἐστένωται have their outlets narrow, Hdn.8.1.6; στεινούμενον αὐλαῖς . . ἄλσος, sc. by comparison, AP9.656.13; cf. στεγνόω 11.2: metaph., to be in difficulty, τοῖς στιχουργήμασι Sch.Lyc.324.
