ἡ, (v. θάπτω)

   A burial, ταφῆς τυχεῖν, κυρῆσαι, Hdt.1.24,112: in pl., mode of burial, Id.2.85,5.8: pl. also of the burials of those who had fallen in battle, δημοσίᾳ ταφὰς ἐποιήσαντο Th.2.34; νόμοι... οἷς ἐχρῶντο περὶ τὰς ταφάς ib.52, cf. OGI90.32 (Rosetta, ii B.C.).    2 pl. also, burial-place, Hdt.4.71, 5.63, S. Aj.1090, 1109: later in sg., Sammelb.6028.2, al.
