A στάσις B. 111) mostly in pl., members of a party or faction in a state, partisans, οἱ τοῦ Μεγακλέος σ. Hdt.1.60, cf. 59,173, al.; acting as a body-guard, Antipho Fr.1. 2 metaph. (with punning allusion to στάσις B. 1.1), οἱ τοῦ ὅλου σ. the partisans of 'The Whole', opp. οἱ ῥέοντες, Pl.Tht.181a; σ. τῆς φύσεως καὶ ἀφυσίκους, of Parmenides and Melissus, who denied motion, Arist. ap. S.E.M.10.46.
