   A away from home, abroad, ἄ. πέμπειν τινὰ γῆς to send away from one's native land, S.OT1518.    II mostly as Subst.,    1 of persons, settler, colonist, Hdt.5.97, Th.1.25,38, 7.57, etc.    2 of cities, πόλιν Σινωπέων ἄποικον ἐν τῇ Κολχίδι χώρᾳ X.An.5.3.2, cf. 6.2.1, Ar.Lys.582: hence A. calls iron Χάλυβος Σκυθῶν ἄ. Th.729 (lyr.).
