A sarissa, a long pike used in the Macedonian phalanx, Thphr.HP3.12.2, Plb.2.69.9, 18.29.2, etc. (Freq. written σάρισσα, OvId.Metam.12.466, Lucan.8.298; but σάρισα appears in most of the best codd. of Plb.2.69, etc., and is recognized by Hdn.Gr.1.267.)
