A aiding, succouring, propitious, τινί Pi.O.2.49, A.Eu.289: abs., Id.Pr.997, S.OT206 (lyr.):—rare in Prose, beneficial, medically, Hp.Aër.10; ἔλαιον . . ταῖς θριξὶ ἀ. Pl.Prt.334b. 2 c. gen., serviceable, useful towards a thing, ἀρωγὰ τῆς δίκης ὁρκώματα A.Eu.486; γένος ναΐας ἀρωγὸν τέχνας serviceable in sea-craft, S.Aj. 357; δίψους ἀ. against thirst, Antiph.150; πόνων Luc.Trag.54: with Preps., ἐπὶ ψευδέσσι Il.4.235; πρός τι Th.7.62: and c. dat., ῥίζας ἐχίεσσιν ἀ. serviceable against, Nic.
