αὐτόποιος: -ον, ὁ ἑαυτὸν ποιῶν, ὁ ἑαυτὸν παράγων, αὐτοφυής, περὶ ἐλαίας, ἀλλὰ κυρίως περὶ τῆς ἐν τῇ Ἀκροπόλει τῶν Ἀθηνῶν ἱερᾶς ἐλαίας, ἥτις τὴν δευτέραν ἡμέραν ἀπὸ τῆς ἐμπρήσεως ταύτης ὑπὸ τῶν Περσῶν ἐξέφυσε βλαστὸν πηχυαῖον, φύτευμ’ ἀχείρωτον αὐτόποιον Σοφ. Ο. Κ. 698. Περὶ τοῦ τονισμοῦ τῆς λέξεως ὁ Chandler (§ 457) φρονεῖ ὅτι δὲν ἔχει ὑγιῶς, διότι πᾶσαι αἱ λέξεις αἱ εἰς -ποιος λήγουσαι καὶ οὖσαι σύνθετοι ἐκ τοῦ ῥήματος ποιῶ ὀξύνονται, διὸ καὶ ὁ Jebb εὖ ποιῶν ἐτόνισε τὴν τελευταίαν συλλαβὴν γράψας αὐτοποιόν.
