ask as a beggar: P. and V. προσαιτεῖν (τινά τι), V. ἐπαιτεῖν (τινά τι).

be a beggar: Ar. and P. πτωχεύειν.

beg to be excused: P. and V. παρίεσθαι (absol.), παραιτεῖσθαι (acc. or absol.).
