Att. ἀντιτάττω,
A set opposite to, range in battle against, τὸ ἄριστον ἀ. Πέρσῃσι Hdt.5.110; τίν' ἀντιτάξεις τῷδε; A.Th.395, cf. 408, etc.; ἀ. τὸν νόμον πρὸς τὴν ἀναίδειαν set the law in opposition to their impudence, Aeschin.3.16, cf. Isoc.9.61, etc.:—so in Med., πρὸς τὸ ἐμπειρότερον αὐτῶν τὸ τολμηρότερον ἀντιτάξασθε Th.2.87; τῶν Ἑλλήνων τινὰ ἀρετὴν τῇ Ξέρξου δυνάμει ἀντιτάξασθαι Id.3.56. II Med., set oneself against, meet face to face, ἀντιτάξομαι κτενῶν σε E.Ph.622, cf. Th.4.55, etc.; περί τῶν πρωτείων ἡμῖν ἀντιτάξασθαι D.3.27:—Pass., to be drawn out in array against, τινί Hdt.4.134, X.HG3.1.6; πρὸς τὸ διπλήσιον Hdt.7.103; πόλιν -ομένην πρὸς πόλιν X.Cyr.3.1.18, etc.; κατά τινας Id.HG4.2.18; τὸ ἀντιτετάχθαι ἀλλήλοις τῇ γνώμῃ Th.3.83: abs., dub. in E.Supp.1144. 2 generally, oppose, resist, Plb.31.25.8, Act.Ap.18.6, Ep.Rom.13.2, etc. 3 set against, compare, LXX Pr.3.15 (Pass.).
