A giving surety:—hence, generally, to be depended upon, trusty, φρούρημα, προστάται, σθένος, A.Th.449,797, Eu.87: c. inf., capable, sufficient, οὐ φ. εἰμι δύναμιν παρασχεῖν τοσαύτην Hdt.5.30; λιμὴν φ. διασῶσαι τὰς νέας Id.7.49, cf. A.Th.396,470: c. gen. rei, warrant for a thing, able to answer for, τί . . κελεύεις, ὧν ἐγὼ φ.; S.El.942; trusty in face of danger, πρὸς τὰ δεινὰ φερεγγυώτατος Th.8.68.—Cf. ἐχέγγυος.
