   A the Styx, i.e. the Hateful, Il.8.369: also the nymph of this river, Hes.Th.361.    2 a well of fatal coldness in Arcadia, Hdt.6.74, Str.8.8.4, Paus.8.18.5.    II as Appellat., monster, reptile, ἄτρωτον . . ὑπὸ στυγός (στύγος cod.M) A.Ch. 532 (sed leg. στύγους).    2 piercing chill, as of frost, in pl., αἱ στύγες εἰσδύονται εἰς τὰ σώματα Thphr.CP5.14.4.    3 hatred, abhorrence, esp. of mankind, Alciphr.3.34.    4 = σκώψ, Ant.Lib.21.5, Hygin.
