A διθύραμβα Pi.Fr.86:—dithyramb, Archil.77, Epich.132, Hdt.1.23, Pi.O.13.19, Pherecr.145.11, Pl.Lg.700b, Arist.Pol.1342b7, Pr.918b18, etc.; μιξοβόας δ. A.Fr. 355: metaph. of bombastic language, τοσουτονὶ δ. ᾄσας Pl.Hp.Ma. 292c; οὐκέτι πόρρω διθυράμβων φθέγγομαι Id.Phdr.238d. II a name of Dionysus, E.Ba.526 (lyr.), Philod.Scarph.1:—hence Δῐθυραμβογενής, AP9.524. (Pi. is said to have written it λῡθίραμβος (Fr.85) —as if from λῦθι ῥάμμα, the cry of Bacchus when sewn up in his father's thigh.)
