A steam and odour of fat which exhales from roasting meat, smell or savour of a burnt sacrifice (ἡ λιπαροῦ θυμίασις, opp. λιγνύς, Arist.Mete.387b6, cf. 388a5); κνίση δ' οὐρανὸν ἷκεν ἑλισσομένη περὶ καπνῷ Il.1.317; κνίσην δ' ἐκ πεδίου ἄνεμοι φέρον οὐρανὸν εἴσω 8.549, cf.Ar.Av.193, 1517: generally, odour of savoury meat, Id.Ach.1045 (lyr.), Alex.261.4; αἱ ἐκ τῶν αἱμάτων καὶ σαρκῶν κ. Porph. Abst.2.42; of eructations, Xenocr. ap. Orib.2.58.152.
