   A upwards, ὅταν . . μοῖρα πέμπῃ ἀ. ὄλβον Pi.O.2.22; ἀσπίδα φέρειν . . ἀ. ἐς τὸν οὐρανόν Ar.V.18, cf. Fr.188; [τρέπειν] τὸν αὐχέν' ἐκ γῆς ἀ. Crates Com.10; ἀ. δ' ἐπήρω τὸ σκέλος Eup.50, cf. Pherecr.169 (Valck.); εἰς τὸ ἀ. Hp.Mul.1.1. (Plu.Thes.33 wrongly derives the name of the Ἄνακες from this word, τὸ γὰρ ἄνω τοὺς Ἀττικοὺς ἀνέκας (sic) ὀνομάζειν καὶ ἀνέκαθεν τὸ ἄνωθεν, cf. Num.13: but -κάς perh. as in ἀνδρα-κάς (A) (q.v.), ἑ-κάς : ἀνεκάς does not contain ἑκάς; ἀνεκάς· ψιλῶς, Phot.p.129.13 R., i.e. not ἀνηεκάς.)
