[Seite 401] ύος, ἡ, od. ὀσφῦς, Arcad. 92 (nach Arist. H. A. 1, 12 von ἰσοφυής), die Hüfte; μακρὰν ὀσφὺν πυρώσας, Aesch. Prom. 495, vom Schenkelknochen der Opfer, wie Ar. Pax 1018; Vesp. 225 heißt es von den Wespen ἔχουσι γὰρ καὶ κέντρον ἐκ τῆς ὀσφύος; – Her. 2, 40; Xen. Hipp. 1, 12 u. Sp. ὀσφὺς διπλῆ, die oberhalb der Hüften vorstehenden fleischigen Theile am Ende des Rückens, die Hanke. – Den acc. ὀσφύα hat Strat. 55 (XII, 213).
