A thrive, flourish, εὐθηνέειν Αἴγυπτον Hdt.2.91, 124 codd., cf. X.Ath.2.6 codd.; κτήνεσιν εὐθηνεῖ (sc. ὁ ὄλβιος) h.Hom.30.10; πρόβατα εὐθηνεῖν may their sheep thrive, SIG526.42 (Crete, iii B.C.); τὰ κτήνεα εὐθηνεῖν εἰκός prob. in Hp.Aër.12 (εὐθύνειν codd.), cf. Epid. 6.4.20 (εὐθυνεῖ vulg., εὐθενεῖ Gal.); freq. in LXX (Jb.21.9, al.), cf. BGU1118.30 (i B.C.), al., Ph.1.211, 2.429:—Pass., Αἴγυπτος καρποῖς ἀφθόνοις εὐθηνεῖτο POxy.1381.238 (ii A.D.). (εὐθηνέω—Ion. acc. to Zonar.—is freq. v.l. for εὐθενέω (q.v.) and is required by metre in h.Hom. l.c.)
