Hdt.1.133; ὡς ἁλέες εἴησαν οἱ Ἕλληνες Hdt.9.15, cf. 7.104, al.: sg. with collective nouns, ἁ. γενομένη πᾶσα ἡ Ἑλλάς 7.157; ἁ. ἐὼν ὁ στρατός ib.236; ἁ. τροφή, αἷμα, Hp.Vict.2.45, Morb. 2.4. Adv. -έως prob. in Hp.Mul.1.36: neut. pl.as Adv., ἐκχέουσιν τὸ οὖρον ἁλέα Aret.SD2.2. [ᾱ, Call.Fr.86; ἀλέα λέσχην is v.l. Hes. Op. 493.] (sṃ-ϝαλής, cf. ϝαλῆναι.)
