(Perh. cogn. with Lat. custos, OE. hýdan 'hide'.):—poet. Verb, cover, hide, esp. of the grave, ὅπου κύθε γαῖα where earth covered him, Od.3.16 (also in Pass., εἰς ὅ κεν αὐτὸς ἐγὼν Ἄϊδι κεύθωμαι, i.e. till I am in the grave, Il.23.244); ὃν οὐδὲ κατθανόντα γαῖα κ. A.Pr.570 (lyr.), cf.E.Hec.325; ὁπότ' ἄν σε δόμοι κεκύθωσι, i.e. when thou hast entered the house, Od.6.303, cf.
