The same (disyll.) root has been supposed in <b class="b3">παλά-μη</b>, <b class="b3">παλα-στή</b>, but a root <b class="b2">*plh₂-</b> cannot have given <b class="b3">πλα-</b>; full grade in <b class="b3">πέλα-νος</b> ? Cf. also <b class="b3">πλάξ</b> (which cannot have a disyll. root). After Prellwitz however to <b class="b3">πλῆθος</b>, <b class="b3">πίμπλημι</b>, but <b class="b2">*pleh₁-</b> is here impossible. -- Or an adapted foreign word (quite hypothetic etymology by Lewy Fremdw. 77; s. also Grimme Glotta 14, 17)? To be rejected Specht Ursprung 255 : <b class="b3">θ</b> from IE. [[th]]. - Furnée 259 cites <b class="b3">παλάσια τὰ συγκεκομμένα σῦκα</b>. <b class="b3">καὶ διὰ τοῦ θ παλάθια</b> H.; the variation <b class="b3">θ</b>\/<b class="b3">σ</b> shows that it is a Pre-Greek word.
